I enjoy reading *some* business books (the kind that get you excited about moving forward, not the kind that make you fall asleep over your desk). Two of my favorite authors are Tom Peters (I love all of his books) and Michael Hyatt (check out Living Forward – I’m on the Launch Team for this book and I’m counting the days until I receive my advance copy). Both strongly emphasize the importance of Wow! (doing something that makes your client/customer say Wow and want to share your business with their friends).
So, as I’m working on getting my business started, I keep asking myself, “How do I create a Wow! product?”
According to Michael Hyatt, don’t worry about turning everything into Wow products right now. Instead, focus on one item at a time and figure out how you can wow people with it.
A couple examples are offering a ton of extras for an ebook launch and revamping an office lobby so that people feel welcomed as soon as they walk in. Michael practices what he preaches, and if you pre-order Living Forward by Feb. 29, there is an incredible list of bonus items that you can receive, including a free copy of the audio book, a detailed action plan, access to the live launch, and access to the complete library of Life Planning templates.
One of the best suggestions that I walked away with is to keep a list of products and companies that make you say Wow! For me, this includes Studio 3 Eleven, who created the most beautiful letterpress business cards for me; Humble Bundle, a site that convinces me to buy new games and books by sending some, most, or even all of my payment to charities; and Leonie Dawson’s Shining Workbooks and Planner.
I’d love to hear some of the things that make you say, “Wow!” Please share them in the comments. 💕
